Heba Bevan OBE is the CEO and founder of UtterBerry Ltd. UtterBerry designs and manufactures intelligent wireless sensors and sensor systems with diverse applications in a multitude of industries. The miniature and extremely low power sensors employ on board artificial intelligence, monitor multiple variables and wirelessly relay processed data in real time. UtterBerry was named as one of London’s Best Hardware Companies to Work For and Buy From 2021 by BestStartupUK. Heba is a businesswoman and electronics and computer engineer with a track record of technical innovation in the areas of wireless sensor and sensor network design. She is passionate about technology design and expanding hi-tech manufacturing and STEM education in Britain. She holds board and industrial advisor positions for commerce and educational institutions. Heba’s technical expertise includes artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, blockchain, optics, semiconductors, compound semiconductors and communication systems. She has in-depth knowledge and experience in embedded software markets, networking, wireless sensors and cyber security. Heba cultivates strong and collaborative customer and partner relationships, enabling parties to maximise contributions in their respective areas of expertise. Heba studied electronics and computer engineering (Hons), receiving a first for her final year project on robotics visualisation. She worked for the microchip design company ARM during her study and on graduation, initially as a CPU engineer and an integral designer of the ARM Cortex processors found in virtually all mobile phones in the world today, then in technical sales where she helped close some of the largest deals in the smart phone and gaming markets. Heba returned to study at the University of Cambridge (Jesus College) in the area of low power wireless sensor networks, and it was during her PhD study in 2013 that she founded UtterBerry. Heba has 20 patents to her name (both pending and granted) in a range of fields including manufacturing, Blockchain, security, health and sensing technology. She has won several awards including the CIOB Digital Innovation Award, The Construction Excellence National Award for Innovation, and two NCE Ground Engineering awards. Heba was awarded an OBE for her contributions to technology, innovation, and STEM education 2018. In 2021 Heba received the Women of the Year Woman of the Year award for Innovation and in 2022 she received the Princess Royal Silver Medal for her contribution to UK engineering. Heba is committed to sustainability and the application of engineering to create new sustainable technologies in the electronics industry. Heba participated in COP26 and supports the government in international engagements related to sustainability. Since 2020, Heba has developed novel multi-symptom scanner and is heavily involved in expanding 5G connectivity in rural Wales, working with the Welsh government, DCMS and BT to ensure cutting edge technology enhancements reach farms, heritage sites such as castles, and rural transport including bus systems. In 2021, Heba established UtterBerry’s Innovation and Manufacturing Hub in Leeds to develop novel technologies manufactured through the use of advanced manufacturing capabilities unique to the UK.
